CARE Givers Circle:
Developing a Community to Support Diversity and Inclusion in Animal Welfare
(Baltimore, MD. November 28, 2021) — It’s no secret: walk into most animal shelters and in many parts of the country, you’ll probably not see a person of color. The CARE Givers Circle is a new membership group that serves to support BIPOC communities that have not been traditionally represented in the animal welfare industry. The Circle is needed to bring more diverse voices and perspectives into the human-animal well-being movement. From executive leadership roles to service employees, the CARE Givers Circle hopes to connect ALL people who want to advocate for people who have been historically marginalized.
Animal welfare volunteers and staff, as well as those who are committed to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion, are encouraged to join. To join, click here. You can also text CIRCLE to 52886.
CARE believes power exists in numbers, which can lead to a collective force. The Givers Circle is much more than a membership. The Circle seeks people with the passion, wisdom, and lived experiences to work collectively to build the most equitable and kind communities for pets and the people who love and care for them.
CARE’s Chief Engagement Officer Kenny Lamberti will lead the effort. “Where there are people there is power. To fully realize this power, we must be inclusive of all people. For far too long too many people particularly BIPOC individuals have been systematically left out of the power structure. The human-animal well-being movement has historically been one of the least inclusive and diverse fields, and the CARE Givers Circle aims to change this by intentionally prioritizing equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work.”
Members who join will receive a monthly newsletter, invites to the CARE Givers Circle national calls, up-to-the-minute news, and the opportunity to connect with other advocates locally and nationally.
